Buhari Orders Immediate Release Of N5bn For Boko Haram Victims

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly instructed the Head of Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, to facilitate the immediate release of N5 billion for the victims of Boko Haram attacks.

The N5 billion for release was pledged by the Federal Government in August of 2014 for the Victims Support Fund (VSF) during a fund-raiser.

President Buhari was said to have given the directive after receiving a briefing from the VSF Presidential Committee headed by former defence minister, Theophilus Danjuma, at the Presidential Villa.

Danjuma reportedly informed Buhari that out of the N55.92 billion pledged at the fund-raising dinner for the fund in August 2014, about N33.54 billion was yet to be redeemed.

The Victims Support Fund currently stands at N23.33 billion and are situated in four bank accounts.

Buhari Says We're Now Better Equipped To Battle Boko Haram

President Buhari on Friday said with the coming on board of the Multi National Joint Task Force which has been established under the auspices of the Lake Chad Basin Commission, Nigeria and neighbouring countries are now on a better stead to defeat the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

He said with the formation of what he called stronger regional coalition, the countries in the region had an increased capacity to deal effectively with the sect and other terrorist groups.



In a statement by Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, he quoted the President as speaking while granting audience to the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Office for West Africa, Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Adesina said that Buhari reaffirmed his belief that the full activation and deployment of the joint task force would lead to the speedy defeat and elimination of Boko Haram.

The President added that with the Command and Control Centre of the Nigerian military now in Maiduguri, Borno State, the morale of troops in the front-line states had improved significantly.

"You can tell the Secretary-General that we are doing our best and our best will be good enough for the nation and the sub-region," Buhari told Chambas who commended him for his strong and positive actions against terrorism.





The President also called on the UN to assist African countries in the acquisition and use of innovative technologies to ensure more credible elections. He said: "When citizens recognise that their votes count, it will boost their confidence in democracy and their countries’ electoral systems,” he said."

Recalling that in the last general elections in Nigeria, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) used smart card readers to authenticate prospective voters, President Buhari observed that while Nigeria could afford the use of such technology in its elections, other African countries may require support and assistance from the international community.

The UN envoy also welcomed the President’s successful visit to Cameroon this week and his reaffirmation of Nigeria’s commitment to the peaceful resolution of all border issues with Cameroon.

EFCC arraigns Kano hospital clerks for N3.2m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 arraigned one Umar Yusuf and Ibrahim Ahmed Bebeji, both former clerks of National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala, Kano State before Justice Dije Aboki of the State High Court, Kano on a 3-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and theft. Yusuf and Bebeji, between January and September, 2013 allegedly conspired and fraudulently altered information on official revenue receipts in their custody for services rendered to individuals.An audit report carried out by the Hospital Management revealed that, the sum of N3,331,167 (three million, three hundred and thirty one thousand, one hundred and sixty seven naira) was collected as revenue by the accused. But, the duo declared and paid the sum of N150,314 (one hundred and fifty thousand, three hundred and fourteen naira) to the hospital coffers while pocketing the sum of N3,180,853 (three million, one hundred and eighty thousand, eight hundred and fifty three naira).

One of the charges reads: “That you, Umar Yusuf And Ibrahim Ahmad Bebeji between January to September, 2013 in Kano within the judicial division of the High Court of Justice, Kano State, while being clerks of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Dala, Kano, committed theft of the sum of N3,180,853.00 (three million, one hundred and eighty thousand, eight hundred and fifty three naira only) which was received as part of the revenue accruable to the Hospital and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 286 and punishable under Section 289 of Penal Code.”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them. Counsel to the EFCC, Musa Isa, asked the court for a date for hearing sequel to the plea of the accused persons. However, the defence counsel urged the court to admit the accused persons to bail. Justice Aboki granted the accused bail with two sureties of not below Grade Level 12. The sureties must sign a bond of one million naira each. The accused are to be remanded in prison custody until their bail conditions are met. The case has been adjourned to October 8, 2015 for commencement of trial.

EFCC interrogates Enugu PDP Chairman over Divertion Of Funds Meant For Public Housing

The interrogation of former aides and associates of Sullivan Chime, former governor of Enugu State by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, continued today with the grilling of Ikeje Asogwa, former managing director, Enugu State Housing Corporation and incumbent chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State.

Asogwa arrived the headquarters of EFCC in Abuja about 10.30am on July 31. He was still being interrogated at the headquarters of the EFCC.

Sources at the anti-graft agency disclosed that Asogwa's invitation followed the discovery that he diverted Enugu state funds meant for public housing in the state.

His interrogation comes a day after Ifeoma Nwobodo, Chime's ex- Chief of Staff, was grilled for alleged money laundering and misappropriation of funds. She is still in the custody of the agency.

Officers of Delta state Police Command arrested a Pastor, identified as Oro Oboreh with a 14-year-old girl at Ozoro cemetery in Delta state.

According to the police report, "on July 30th 2015 at about 11:30pm, Police patrol team intercepted one Pastor Oro Oboreh with a 14yr-old girl at Ozoro cemetery.

"The Pastor stated that he was performing a spiritual healing for the girl at the location. Investigations are on to ascertain the mission of both persons at the cemetery at such a time."

FG Declares August 24, 25 Diaspora Days

The Federal Government on Thursday in Abuja declared Aug. 24 and 25 as Diaspora Days to recognise Nigerians in Diaspora as important stakeholders in national development.

According to a statement issued by Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to Government of the Federation, Mrs Ibukun Odusote, the days were set aside to create an environment for cross fertilisation of ideas among the Diaspora experts and their Nigerian counterparts.

It hoped this would lead to proffering solutions to some of the nation’s developmental challenges.

According to the statement, the 2015 Diaspora Day celebration will be marked with a National Diaspora Day and Conference with the theme, “Diaspora and Nigeria Change Agenda.

“It would serve as a platform for dialogue, interaction and collaboration by Nigerians in Diaspora particularly professionals who have excelled in their various fields of endeavors as health, science, sport and arts, among others.

“The event, slated to hold at the State House Conference Centre, Presidential Villa, Abuja, will be declared opened and closed by President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Generator Fumes Kill Family Of Three in Bayelsa

Residents of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have been thrown into pandemonium following the death of five persons as a result of generator fumes.

DAILY POST gathered on Thursday that a family of three, involving a husband, his wife and his child died in Emeyal community in Ogbia after inhaling fumes from a generator.

The corpses of the deceased were said to have been discovered three days after their deaths following an offensive odour coming from their bodies in the area.

APC to PDP: Produce APC membership card of DG of DSS or keep quiet!

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that the DG of DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura, is not a card-carrying member of the party, saying nothing short of producing Mr. Daura’s membership card or evidence of his membership registration will convince discerning Nigerians that he is indeed a member of the APC as alleged by the PDP.

"While it amounts to rabble-rousing and crass politicking for the PDP to have wrongly accused Mr. Daura of being a member of the APC without a scintilla of credible evidence, the PDP has weakened its argument by using the pictures in which Mr. Daura appeared with the President and the fact that he served in an election committee as evidence of his membership of the APC,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

”Possession of an APC membership card by Mr. Daura or evidence of registration as a party member at his ward, local government or state will be the only conclusive evidence of his membership of the party,” it said. ”Until such an evidence is produced, we are sorry we have to tell the PDP to shut up!” APC said the PDP is jittery because it is keenly aware of the kind of impunity perpetrated under the federal government it sired from 1999 to 2015.

”PDP has forgotten the saying that he who must come to equity must come with clean hands. When Mr. Mike Okiro chaired the security committee of the PDP campaign in 2011, did that prevent him from being appointed the Chair of the Police Service Commission, which is responsible for issues concerning the welfare, promotion and discipline of all police personnel, in 2013?

”When the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri, was appointed into the Jonathan election committee in 2015, did he resign his appointment as head of the agency or did he automatically become a card-carrying member of the PDP?

”Did retired Col. Kayode Are not become the DG of the DSS despite being a close confidante of Gen. Obasanjo during his electioneering campaign to become President? Was this not under a PDP Federal Government? ”In any case, even in the world’s most advance democracy, United States, was a card-carrying Democrat, Mr. Leon Panetta, not named as head of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) by President Barack Obama in 2009?

Here in Nigeria, the APC-led FG has not even gone that far, and the PDP is blabbing. ”It is an irony that the APC-led Federal Government, which has continued to conduct the affairs of state with a strict adherence to the law, is the one being accused by the immoral, irresponsible and grossly hypocritical PDP. A party that should cover its face in shame for wasting all of 16 years in the life of our country, a party whose members should show penance by hunkering down has continued to assault the sensibilities of a decent nation. Ebonyi: 2 Men Dead, 1 Other Went Blind After Eating Fish

Two men slumped and died after allegedly eating a fresh fish in Ezillo community, Ishielu local government area of Ebonyi State Vanguard reports that another person who allegedly consumed the fish also became blind. The species of the fish is said to be forbidden in that community. One Mr. Alieze was said to have hired the men to do some construction work. 

Mrs. Odoh Onyinyechi , a witness said the men went on break after working for a while. They went to a stream and harvested the forbidden fish.

35-yr-old Teacher Sentenced To 7 Years In Jail For Raping Pupil

A primary school teacher in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, Kareem Akinyemi, is to spend the next seven years in prison after he was sentenced by an High Court for allegedly raping his nine-year-old pupil.

Handing down the sentence, presiding Judge, Olayemi Abodunde, noted that the prosecution had proven its case that Akinyemi actually defiled the girl after drugging her with a substance he put in a drink he gave her.

The State Counsel, Oyin Olatunbosun, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offence at his residence at No. 45, Surulere Street, Ise-Ekiti.

Olatunbosun said that the accused, on the said date, unlawfully raped the nine-year-old girl, when her mother sent her to buy milk for her.

She said that the accused was a teacher at St. Stephen Primary School, Ise-Ekiti, and also the victim’s private home teacher, and after the assault, the girl experienced pains after urinating and confessed to her mother what her teacher did to her.

Condemning the act, Judge Abodunde berated Akinyemi:

“I am convinced that the prosecution has proved that the accused sexually abused and exploited the child. Teachers are supposed to be destiny helpers and shapers not destroyers.

I am of the view that the accused is guilty of sexually abusing and exploiting the nine-year-old girl. He is accordingly convicted and sentenced to seven years imprisonment. This would send a strong message across board that sexual offence against the child is not permitted.”

Man Slumps And Dies After Losing Money To Lottery

A middle-aged commercial motorcyclist identified as Marcel Okorie, reportedly slumped and died at a lottery point popularly called 'Baba Ijebu', after he realised that he had lost a huge sum of money which was said have run into several thousands.

The incident which happened somewhere around Akute, a suburb of Ogun State, according to eyewitnesses, saw the shocked stakers running helter-skelter after Okorie rode on his bike to the spot and on checking the board, realised he had lost his money and was heard moaning to himself, lamenting that he had lost the money meant to pay his house rent after he was given an ultimatum to pack out of his rented apartment by his landlord.

A witness who did not want his name in print painted the picture:

"It is very sad. I knew the man very well. We used to do 'okada' work together from Ogba to Akute and once in a while, we staked 'Baba Ijebu' at the same place.

On the fateful incident, Marcel said he had a dream where his late father gave him some numbers and he played with over N45,000 and would have won millions if they had played.

But unfortunately, the numbers did not play and he slumped when he saw the result. We tried to revive him and by the time we were able to take him to a nearby hospital, he was already dead.

Customs Threatened to Seal Intercontinental Hotel

Following the duel between the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, and major rice investors in the country has taken a new turn, as the NCS has threatened to close down one of Nigeria’s foremost hotels, Intercontinental Hotel Lagos.

The NCS has threatened that it may shut down the Intercontinental Hotel, following the non-payment of retrospective duties by the hotel’s parent company, Milan Group.

This was disclosed thursday by Wale Adeniyi, Public Relations Officer of NCS. The service had shut down the Lagos warehouses of a number of rice importers this week over non-payment of duties on rice imports that had exceeded their quotas.

Some of the major importers affected by the clampdown include Olam, Milan Group and Stallion Group – all owned by Asian nationals with vast investments in Nigeria.

However, according to some rice investors, apart from Intercontinental Hotel, NCS’ actions and threats included closure of several unrelated industries promoted by the rice investors including factories that partner global multinationals and are driving industrial growth and employment.

Twitter wants to know who is the guy who allegedly pissed on Drake, as per Meek Mill’s diss track “Wanna Know.” According to the MMG signee, the incident took place in a movie theater and the guy who “assaulted” Drizzy with his schlong was a friend of T.I.’s. Thanks to the Internet, we figured out the incident happened back in 2010 during the premiere of Takers, starring Tip and Chris Brown, among others. The T.I. affiliate who peed on Drake is Cap. We learned that the latter was drunk during the projection and decided to relieve himself in the aisle. However, he accidentally peed on the OVO Sound leader, who was sneered for failing to react. 

Other than that, here’s some additional information about Cap. His real name is Terrance Beasley and he is first cousin of C-Rod. In 1998, when he was just 18-year-old, he was charged with felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm. The Tip affiliate killed Rodriguez Hamm, 17, following an argument at a birthday party November 22nd, 1998, at the Brewer Street home of the victim’s grandmother. He was sentenced to life. 

Beasley was reportedly released in 2006 on parole due to the circumstances in his case pointing to self-defense. However, motion for a second trial was granted in 2009. Cap was sentenced again on August 24th, 2011 and is currently behind bars in Georgia prison on his original charges and sentence. 

In an unrelated incident, Beasley, along with Killer Mike and others, was named in a 2010 lawsuit filed by an Atlanta studio recording technician, Norris Gresham, against rapper T.I. The victim claimed he was held hostage for over 12 hours at Echo Studios where he was beaten over a missing chain. The Hustle Gang head honcho himself was reportedly not present at the time of the incident.

Prostitution is a Fundamental Human Right Not a Crime: Amnesty International

Amnesty International has stated categorically that every adult has 100% ownership and right to her body and what she does with it, They are pushing for prostitution to be legalised around the world, with the condition that it should be criminalised when it involves “human trafficking for sexual exploitation” and children.

Marie Claire reports that the group have made their proposal which calls for the ‘decriminalisation of sex work’ and intends to ask its delegates to vote for it. But an open letter, signed by more than 400 activists, human rights advocates and celebrities which include stars like Anne Hathaway, Lena Durnam, Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep, questions the issue of consent.

“By definition, sex work means that sex workers who are engaging in commercial sex have consented to do so,” the policy reads. The open letter refuses to agree with this statement, because they believe it would “legalize pimping, brothel owning and sex buying”, that it won’t protect prostitutes and would create “gender apartheid” favouring only sex workers who may choose to leave to leave the industry and hurt women who have no choice.

There is no official vote yet, but tomorrow, August 1, will decide how the voting will go. Colombian model faces death penalty in China for drug trafficking

A 22-year-old model from Colombia, Juliana Lopez, who was on her way to the Miss World Modelling Beauty Pageant through China, is staring certain death in the face after she was nabbed with a large quantity of drugs hidden in her laptop, reports Emirate 247.

According to the report, Lopez had stopped over in China to shop for items to stock her classy boutique back home when she was apprehended and with drug trafficking carrying the death sentence in that country, she could receive the capital punishment.

Shortly after she was arrested, her family lost contact and got in touch with the Colombian embassy but were shocked to learn she had been arrested and could face execution.

Chinese officials told the family Lopez was caught with a large quantity of a banned substance inside her laptop.

Her family is now desperately trying to raise funds to visit and cover Lopez's legal costs while the Colombian Foreign Ministry is reportedly assisting her as the investigation goes on, which is expected to take up to two years.

According to Amnesty International, China has the highest execution rate of any country, and carries out more executions than the rest of the world combined.

This is indeed not the best of time for the chief medical director of the Federal Medical center Owerri, Dr Mrs Angela Uwakwemh. The hospital boss was sacked few days ago and the premises of the FMC went wild and agog with celebration. The embattled ex CMD has been in the news of late over the running battle she was having with the staff of the hospital because alleged cases of nepotism, occultic practices within the hospital premises, high handiness and allegedly enriching herself from the coffers of the medical center to the detriment of her staff.

 At a point, the staff of the center went on strike, demanding for her sack and from what we gathered, she was suspended on Monday this week to enable the investigative panel do their job without interference , an announcement that interpreted to mean that the thorn in their flesh have been sacked and that triggered off massive jubilation in the medical center and the staff of the center went on dancing spree as the pictures below shows.

Robbers now Disguise as Bank Customers on ATM Queues at Night

The Nigeria Police Force said on Friday that armed robbers were disguising as customers at ATM at night to strike, following recent incidents in Abuja on Thursday morning and Tuesday.

“On 30th July 2015 at about 12:10am a male bank customer went to withdraw money from one of the ATMs at the CBD, three young men pretending to also there to withdraw money attacked him.

“The victim raised an alarm which attracted nearby Police patrol team to the scene. The hoodlums took to their heels upon sighting the advancing Police team, one automatic pistol fell from one of the suspects and was recovered by the Police. Victim was safely rescued.

“However, another male victim was unlucky as hoodlums attached him and snatched cash sum of N500,000 he just withdrew from an ATM on 28th July 2015. Police responded to his distress call and one of the suspects arrested. Efforts on to apprehend other gang members, FCT CIID is investigating.”

The baby boy christened Chongfilawos was born without arms or legs.

Man Defiles His 11 Year Old daughter In Benue

A middle-aged man (names withheld) has been arrested and arraigned before a Makurdi Court for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his 11-year-old daughter.

It was learnt that the accused was arrested a few days ago after allegedly engaging the girl in days of repeated sexual abuse whenever his wife was away from home.

He was, however, caught in the act by a neighbour, who heard the cry of the girl, while she was allegedly being sexually abused, in one of his escapades.

The neighbour was said to have called the attention of his wife to the development. She examined her daughter and, convinced that she had been defiled, reported the matter to the police.

At the hearing yesterday, police prosecutor, Inspector Hyacinth Gbakun, told the court that the accused contravened Section 91 of the Penal Code and the laws of Benue State.

However, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction, but the prosecuting officer asked for an adjournment to allow the police carry out further investigations.

In her ruling, the presiding judge, Mrs. Cecilia Bakara, ordered that the accused be remanded at Makurdi Federal Prison and adjourned the case to September 29.

An accident occurred between 6:30am and 7:10am this morning July 31st on the Lagos- Ibadan expressway. It involved multiple vehicles including trailers, tankers and passenger buses. About 4 people including a child died were killed. Many were seriously injured. See graphic photos below..
