Wizkid and Skepta
The song was not a product of endless hours of planning and masterful orchestration. It was time and chance, which brought it to life.
Wizkid’s ‘Ojuelegba’ housed on his sophomore album, ‘Ayo (Joy),’ the song has since become an international smash hit, with covers and refixes coming in thick.
But the refix to end all remixes has made an entrance, and it came from an unusual source. Tech giants, Apple has launched their potential game-changing streaming service, Apple Music, which also contains a radio service. In a bid to make it go viral as a bonafide paid music streaming solution, they had signed up a number of international stars to host shows. Drake is one of them.
The ‘6 God’ owns a show titled OVO Sounds, on which he plays songs, premieres new materials, showcases special feature music, and generally gives a unique angle to the Apple service.
Drake
During the Wireless Music Festival which held at the London earlier this month, Skepta who is a friend and fan of Wizkid, played the song for Drake, who fell in love and made a remix. The song got a premiere on Apple Music, shutting down the internet with downloads and conversations.
For Wizkid, this amazing, even going into the realm of epoch-making. This is the ultimate career dream for many international artistes, is to have collaboration with a Western star. Drake is a Hip-hop god, with anything he touches transforming into musical gold. That’s the sheer strength of his influence.
Ojuelegba remix comes at a time when Wizkid’s career and perception direly needs a shot in the arm. The singer has had a lukewarm 2015 so far with local collaborations and a single,‘Expensive shit’, being his highlight. But all of that has changed with this.
He has Drake on a song. That’s all he needs for now.
