Headmaster Arrested for Impersonating EFCC

Mohammed Adamu
The desperation of Mohammed Adamu, an assistant headmaster at Madaki Primary School in Gombe State, to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform the Hajj, has landed him in trouble as he has been arrested for allegedly parading himself as an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as well as presenting himself as police officer.
Adamu who also go by the name, Mohammed Bala, was said to have extorted money from the Executive Secretary of the Gombe State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, Alhaji Usman Gurama, under the guise of securing Hajj slots for staff of the Gombe zone of the EFCC.
Reacting on the arrest, the Head, Media and Publicity of the anti-graft body, Wilson Uwujaren, said Adamu was nabbed on July 13, 2015.
In a statement Uwujaren released, he said:
“Investigations by the commission revealed that the suspect had written a letter to the executive secretary of the pilgrim’s board, requesting for money to give to staff of EFCC for the pilgrimage to Mecca. Upon his arrest by the EFCC, he confessed not being an employee of the commission.”
He added that Adamu told Gurama that he needed to get the money for the EFCC Head of Operations, Head of Monitoring and Investigation, OC Legal and Prosecution Unit and Head of Team A-D.
Uwujaren said after a thorough investigation, it was discovered that the perpetrator of the crime was a staff of the Gombe Local Government Education Authority.
A police identity card bearing his name and picture with the rank of a corporal, and a  temporary appointment offer letter from Gombe Local Government Education Authority, three different copies of Hajj seat receipts and a letter written by the suspect on a plain paper to the executive secretary, Gombe State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, requesting for money for supposed staff of EFCC, were recovered from him.
