Buhari will meet with Benin counterpart, Boni Yayi after a similar visit to Cameroon on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.
According to a statement by the Nigerian president’s media aide,Femi Adesina, the trip will round-off Buhari’s diplomatic shuttles to neighbouring countries to strengthen regional cooperation against terrorism and make it much harder for Boko Haram to operate across national boundaries.
Niger's President Mahamadou Issoufou, Benin's President Thomas Boni Yayi, Chad's President Idriss Deby and Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari (L-R) pose during the presentation of the communique of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of The Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, June 11, 2015. Nigeria and its neighbours agreed on Thursday to set up a joint military force to counter Boko Haram, a sign of President Muhammadu Buhari's intent to crush the Islamist militant group early in his tenure.
Yayi had visited Abuja, along with the leaders of Chad and Niger, after Buhari’s inauguration for a security summit on the creation of a multinational force against the sect.
