The Director of the Lagos State Fire Service, Dr. Razak Fadipe, told Punch, “He woke up around 4 am on Friday and asked his wife to heat some water for him to bath. The wife eventually did so and by the time the water had boiled, she took the water to the bathroom and she went in to fetch him; that was when she started looking for him to no avail.
“While carrying out the search in company with their neighbours, they found the man’s footwear and torchlight by the well located in their compound and suspected that he must be in it. But they couldn’t confirm this because it was too dark. It was at that point that they placed a distress call to us and we went there.”
