Pakistani bride murdered over insufficient dowry

A recently married Pakistani woman died after her in-laws forced her to drink acid, for bringing what they considered to be insufficient dowry, police said.

The crime occurred Monday in the Daska area of Punjab province.

Police official Rana Riaz said 25-year-old Takreem Bibi was married on September 4, and her in-laws were angry about her dowry.

“She was taken to hospital, where she died due to internal injuries caused by acid consumption,” he said.

Raiz told newsmen that the police were still trying to track down Bibi’s husband in connection the crime.

The killing of women for lack of dowry is common in Pakistan.

A man charged with murdering his girlfriend admitted to disemboweling her with his bare hands after she twice cried out her ex-husband's name during sex, police said.

According to a police report self-confessed "monster" Fidel Lopez said he flew into a drunken rage after she cried out the other man's name during rough sex inside of their Sunrise apartment's wardrobe in Florida.

Investigators say the 24-year-old admitted to shattering a sliding glass door, punching holes into a wall and ripping a closet door off its hinges.

He then returned to 31-year-old Maria Nemeth, who was lying unconscious on the floor, and proceeded to mutilate her with various objects before using his arms to disembowel her.

Before calling 911 just after 3.30am on Sunday, Lopez said he carried her body to the bathroom and splashed water on her face in an attempt to revive her.'

He then washed his hands, had a cigarette break outside and called cops to say his lover was not breathing.

Paramedics arrived at the scene to find Lopez sobbing over the woman's naked body lying in a pool of blood, according to the police report.

Ms Nemeth was pronounced dead at the scene less than 30 minutes after Lopez’s initial call to police.

In a police interview, Lopez said he and Ms Nemeth had been drinking tequila in their apartment and at some point began to have sex.

He told investigators the woman had asked him to insert a beer bottle inside her.

Lopez said Ms Nemeth then went into the bathroom to vomit and he later found her having trouble breathing and he called 911.

But later Lopez reportedly changed his story and revealed that he became enraged when Ms Nemeth called out her ex-husband's name during sex.

He then attacked her, inserting foreign objects inside her and carrying out an horrific attack.

Lopez was arrested on a first-degree murder charge on Sunday afternoon and is being held in jail.

Officers broke in to the family flat through a window to find the dead youngsters – aged between one and seven – and the body of their pregnant mother in Nizhny Novgorod, east of Moscow.

The children’s 51 year old father, named as Oleg Belov, is suspected of killing his family at their home in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, 250 miles east of Moscow, said official sources.

The children were named as Alyona, seven, Fyodor, six, Sonya, five, Nikifor, three, Ilya, two, and Daria, one.

Their mother was named as Zinaida, a lecturer in advanced mathematics at a local university.

The alert had been raised by the kindergarten and Zinaida’s mother Valentina Zaitseva, 69, after the children were not seen for a week, after not attending classes since 25 July.

The Kremlin’s children’s ombudsman Pavel Astakhov said that it appeared the mother intended to deprive Belov of his paternal rights, barring him from raising the youngsters.

Police yesterday launched a murder probe with reports emerging last night that the father may have been found in a mental hospital.

Neighbours claimed that the father had been seen at the flat, but left in an unknown direction. It is unclear when the sighting of the father took place.

Young Boy Murdered For Ritual

A Nepalese man has confessed to the murder of a young boy after claiming a shaman advised him that a human sacrifice would heal his ailing son. The body of 10-year-old Jivan Kohar was found on July 24 on the outskirts of the Kudiya village, in southwest Nepal. The child had gone missing three days earlier. Police superintendent Nal Prasad Upadhyaya, who headed up the investigation, told CNN Monday that Kodai Harijan admitted committing the gruesome crime after consulting the shaman. In some cultures, shamans are believed to have magical or spiritual powers to cure the sick. According to testimony given to police, Harijan and his relatives found the child playing with friends in the village and lured him away by giving him a pack of biscuits and promising him 50 rupees (49 cents). The boy was taken to a temple on the outskirts of the village where they performed a religious ritual. He was then taken to a field nearby where three people held him down as another slit his throat. When police found him, the boy's head was almost severed from his body completely. Eleven people in total, including the shaman, have been arrested for their involvement, with the perpetrators facing a life sentence. The village, in the Nawalparasi district bordering India, is home to some of the country's poorest and uneducated people -- often known as "untouchables" in the traditional caste system. Both the victim and the accused in this recent killing are from this social class. Superstitions such as the sacrificial slaughter of animals such as water buffaloes, goats and chickens are common among the country's mainly Hindu population. The ritual killing of animals during the Gadhimai festival -- celebrated every five years -- takes place in the belief it will bring prosperity. "[It's] very unfortunate what happened," said Hari Prasad Mainai, Nawalparasi's chief district officer. "From the government level, we are going to launch (an) awareness program against these superstitions in the villages of Nawalparasi district.
