Jidenna: US based Nigerian singer pens open letter to Nigerians

On, July 11, 2015 Jidenna's statement about kidnapping in Nigeria went viral on Twitter. Nigerians reacted harshly to his statement. Jidenna trended for two days because of this. In the DJ Vlad interview, Jidenna said "When I went to bury my father, I had to bring a lot of AK-47s… I had to employ military commandos… Because when you’re light-skinned, you’re a heavier target for being kidnapped, because you’re seen as more valuable."

In an open letter to Nigerians, the Janelle Monae label mate wrote about his father, his Nigerian upbringing and his painful robbery experience.

It has definitely been the summer of Jidenna and his 'Classic Man' movement.

On the heels of the break out song that thrown the rising star to the top of the chart, he does it again by enlisting the help of TDE star Kendrick Lamar to grace the beat. The pair head to the west coast to shoot the visual for the 'Classic Man' remix.

The video takes place in California with rappers Lamar and Ty Dolla $igns making cameo appearances in the clip at a swanked-out garage party.

In addition, Jidenna found himself as the topic of conversation earlier this month as he opened up about his upbringing and being biracial with a Nigerian-born father. In a recent interview, he details some of the dangers he faced traveling to Nigeria simply based upon the color of his skin.

Nigerian-American singer Jidenna trended all day on Nigeria Twitter and we all know why. But just incase you have been under a rock, Jidenna said Igbos were in the Southeast Nigeria and that light skinned people are more likely to be kidnapped in Nigeria than dark skinned people because they are seen as more valuable.
