Lagos State Government Closes Oshodi Market for Security Reasons

Lagos State Government yesterday shut down Owonifari market in the Oshodi, Oshodi/Isolo Local Government, aimed at addressing the security challenges in the area.
Lagos State Government often arrested hoodlums in Oshodi for various robberies and other petty incidents.Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, lamented that the market has constituted a menace and an eyesore to the locality.
He added that they have relocated affected traders and shop owners to the newly built Isopakodowo market stalls at Bolade area in Oshodi. The government has also started fencing-off of the set-back on Agege Motor Road that stretches from Ilupeju end of Oshodi all the way to the PWD/Ikeja GRA end of the area.

He said that the fencing-off of the long stretch of the set-back is being undertaken to assist the Federal Government and the Nigerian Railway Corporation in particular with a view to beautifying it and safeguard lives along the railway corridor by discouraging street trading and indiscriminate use of the space.

In the statement,  Ayorinde added that the Owonifari loop will be transformed into an ultra modern bus terminus with new bus shelters that are befitting of a structured park in a mega city.

He stated further that Oshodi will be sane and safe and a place where both traders and commuters would be pleased to visit and trade.

Ambode: Adebule, Folly Coker, Lola Akande to join Lagos governor’s cabinet

The Lagos state Deputy Governor, Dr. Oluranti Adebule, former S.A to Fashola, Folly Coker and Lola Akande have been penned down to join Akinwunmi Ambode’s cabinet.

According to a report by The Punch, the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, may announce members of his cabinet this week barring last minute changes.

The report also revealed that already 15 names have been pencilled to head some of the 20 ministries in the state with the state Deputy Governor taking charge at the education ministry.

Ambode Releases N11bn For Pension Arrears Since 2010

The Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode ordered Pension Cash Assets to release N11billion with immediate effect to offset pension liabilities in arrears since 2010. The money will cover mainstream retirees of the Lagos State Government, retirees in Local Governments and Parastatals.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Service, Mrs. Shade Jaji, the directive is part of efforts by the present administration to find a holistic solution to the issue of payment of pension entitlements to retirees under the Pay-as-You-Go pension Scheme which was discontinued in April, 2007 as well as outstanding accrued pension rights due to retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme.

Jaji said that the State Government has developed a comprehensive payment plan to resolve all outstanding pension issues in the immediate (short), medium and long terms.

Names of Newly Appointed 19 New Permament Secs by Ambode

The Governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode has approved the appointment of 19 new Permanent Secretaries in the State Public Service. In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Habib Aruna, the appointments are in line with the Governor’s drive to restructure the civil service for efficient performance and service delivery.

The names of the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Mr. Bamgboye Abiodun; Mrs. Dapo-Thomas Boladele Aderemi; Mrs. Ariyo Elizabeth Olabisi; Mrs. Adekanye Adebunmi Elizabeth; Mr. Bode Agoro; Dr. (Mrs.) Ayandele Olufolayimika Abiose; Dr. (Mrs.) Sodeinde Nuriat Ibironke; Mr. Odeyemi Mohammed Adesina; Mrs. Odulana Arinola Olufunmilayo.

Others are Mrs. Onisarotu Adesina Jemil; Engr. Bade-Adebowale Ajibade Caster; Mrs. Amosu Sewande Ayodele; Mr. Kadiri Abayomi Adebisi; Mrs. Anifowoshe Amidat Abiola; Mr. Adeyemi Folarin Anthony; Dr. (Mrs.) Oduwole Olanike Elizabeth; Mr. Mustapha Abdul Ahmed Olorunfemi; Mrs. Odunlami Funlola Adesola and Mr. Odupitan James Olusola.

Reconstruction of Ikotun-Ejigbo road to begin next week – Gov. Ambode

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday inspected the Ikotun-Ejigbo road with a promise to the residents that work on the dilapidated road will commence in one week time.

Ambode, who described the state of the road as unacceptable, assured residents who trooped out to hear from him that the road will get a face lift.

“I have come personally to see for myself the state of Ejigbo road and it is very clear that this is totally unacceptable and there is no other remedy than to let our officials come to site within the next one week and the people of this neighbourhood should be guaranteed that work will start on Ikotun-Ejigbo Isolo axis ‎within the next seven days.”

The governor who appealed to residents for understanding when the construction commences, said efforts will be made towards providing relief.

“We would make sure that you have immediate relief. We appeal that in the course of the rehabilitation the people in the neighbourhood bear with us‎ but work will commence immediately after Ramadan,” he assured.

Gov. Ambode Rescues Accident Victim

In what could be best described as a show of concern, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, alighted from his vehicle this morning to assist in the rescue of an accident victim.

The victim, Miss Anukam Angela, who was driving alone in a wine-colour Toyota Corolla car with registration number EKY 415 CG, at about 8:15am, lost control of the vehicle and rammed it into the median of the road along Osborne Road, Ikoyi before the vehicle somersaulted.

Worried by what could have befallen the occupants of the car, Governor Ambode who was heading to the office through the direction before the incident occurred, ordered his convoy to stop at the scene so as to enable him assess the situation as well as help rescue the passengers.

The Governor immediately instructed the ambulance attached to his convoy to convey Miss Angela, who was in a state of shock, and could barely move or talk, to the Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.

Angela’s sister, Amaka, who was contacted shortly after the incident, said she was treated for minor injuries and discharged free of charge on the order of the Governor.

She said the ambulance also conveyed her sister back to her residence at Efosa Ehiedu Close, off Modupe Thomas Estate, Ajah, while the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) assisted in towing the vehicle away from the roadside to prevent traffic gridlock.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Habib Aruna, “what the governor has done is typical of him. It is indeed a demonstration of his concern for the wellbeing of every resident and Miss Angela is not an exception.

“He has also with this act, shown his commitment to an all inclusive approach in protecting the life and properties of citizens in the state.”
